Who I Am? Who Am I?

Like many counsellors,  I have had a varied background of work and life experiences which have brought me to this vocation. I would not have got where I am now in life without the help of counselling sessions for myself. To say that ‘life has not always been smooth sailing’ is an understatement but enough to say that I definitely know and appreciate the value of good quality, professional counselling and the wholesome trust, honesty and congruence that can be built in establishing a supportive Therapeutic Relationship.

You can’t force it, you have to be ready for it; ready to face some demons perhaps, ready to admit to yourself who you are? Where your thoughts and action spring from and whether they are still needed in the here and now. Whatever your reasons for seeking counselling, you will not have to face those things alone. For me, counselling is now a vocation. I conduct my practice in the way I like to live my life and that means that I am based on strong humanistic foundations. I will walk with you on your journey.

I have studied a Diploma in Integrative Counselling which includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness and Person-Centred Counselling, a Higher Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and have trained in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). I am trained also in Safeguarding of Adults and Young People and can link in with services and other key workers as part of an ongoing care support package.

I am focused on the individual wholeheartedly and care sincerely about well-being, physical and mental health and us all being the best that we can be. I have a working background of 18 years in the NHS and more recently, of working with young adults of between 13 and 19 years of age. I am supported ethically by being a Member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and if you or I don’t think that my approach is suited to your need, I will help you find someone who we think could be.

I am honest and not interested in facilitating something that really isn’t working for you. That said, sometimes, the best things take time and I would ask from you the same level of commitment you will get from me as part of our working agreement together. At any point, please feel free to ask me anything at all; openness, honesty, respect and empathy in a non-judgmental space are key to us working successfully together. If you’d like to talk to someone, I’d love to hear from you.
